RECENT EVALUATIONS: CIS Top of the Class Communities In Schools has been rigorously and independently evaluated at the national, state, and local levels and has consistently demonstrated that working in partnership with schools to address the wide array of complex social service issues leads to educational success through improved student grades and test scores, improved attendance, and improved behavior in the classroom. In 2009, Communities In Schools was recognized as a best practice model by the Texas Education Agency, the National Dropout Prevention Center/Network, and the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University. CIS' student outcome data demonstrates the effectiveness of these services as 99% of students served intensively completed the school year, 89.2% were promoted to the next grade, and 84.8% improved grades, attendance, and/or behavior.

WHAT WE DO: Communities In Schools is Central Texas' leading dropout prevention program.
To learn more about the importance of curbing the dropout crisis, watch this short video. Children cannot learn at their potential when they are in crisis or face significant non-academic needs. Most students who drop out of school are dealing with multiple problems that present barriers to their education: poverty, unattended health needs, hunger, an unemployed parent, domestic violence.
Through campus-based programs and special projects, Communities In Schools creates a network of volunteers, social services, businesses, and community resources that work together to break down barriers and help students succeed. And the formula works: last year, 99% of the students referred to Communities In Schools stayed in school. Community Partners and Support Our work would not be possible without the thousands of individuals, organizations, schools, public entities and corporations who support our mission each year. Please visit our Community Partners page to learn more about the vast array of community resources working with us to keep kids in school.
