Volunteer Training Page Training will begin again in September 2010 The training at the Communities In Schools central office will consist of: - An introduction to what CIS is all about, policies, and procedures
- The experience you can expect to have as a CIS volunteer
- Situations you may encounter while working with your student
- Child development, behavior, and activities you can do with your student
* Due to the time needed to build a trusting and rewarding relationship, mentors will not be placed and matched with a child after February 16. We will continue to recruit and place volunteers for the remaining school year in other roles. Volunteers that serve as Special Event/One-time Volunteers do not need to attend training. One-time volunteers will be provided on-site training by the organizer of the event. DIRECTIONS TO OUR CENTRAL OFFICE map to 3000 S IH 35, Austin TX 78704 Directions - from North Austin Go south on Interstate 35. Take the Woodward/St. Edwards Univ. exit. Get into the far right-hand lane. The first street you will come to is St. Edward's Drive. Immediately past St. Edward's Drive, turn into the parking lot and park in any available parking space. We are in the 4-story building and you'll see the address (3000) on the building entryway cover. We are on the 2nd floor in suite 200 (to the left as you get off the elevator. Directions - from South Austin Go north on Interstate 35. Take the Oltorf Street exit. At the light at Oltorf & IH 35, go LEFT and LEFT again, turning back on the SOUTH BOUND frontage road. Get into the far right-hand lane. The first street you will come to is St. Edward's Drive. Immediately past St. Edward's Drive, turn into the parking lot and park in any available parking space. Mentors and Tutors must attend a mandatory 2-hour group training session at the Communities In Schools central office. Your training session will be scheduled when you meet with the volunteer services coordinator at your initial interview. References must be turned in at that time. Placements are not permanent until you have met with the campus program manager and have attended our training. Interns Please Note: You will be required to attend a different set of trainings that will be discussed with you when you come in to sign paperwork with the volunteer services coordinator.
